REASONS TO BECOME A MEMBER OF LIFE CHURCH

  • Membership matters for Life Church Pastors. “Shepherding is a weighty task requiring great care, with eternal implications.” 1 Corinthians 3:13-15. As pastors of Life Church, we want to know who makes up the flock of God that we are accountable for. The best way we know to answer that question is to look at our church’s membership list. These are the believers who have committed themselves to our church and the believers that we feel most responsible to shepherd. Members desire loving accountability to keep them in God’s Way when they begin to wander from the Lord.
  • Membership matters for community. “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2. How do we define “one another”? Is God commanding us to bear the burdens of everyone, everywhere? That sounds exhausting! Once again, this is where church membership helps us. Membership defines our church community and gives us a specific group of people whom God has called us to bear with and build up until the day Christ returns.
  • Membership matters for Jesus. “Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her.” Ephesians 5:25. Jesus is not indifferent about the Church. Jesus died for the Church. The Church is His body and His bride. We cannot overstate the level of Christ’s commitment to the Church. So why would we ever think lightly about our own commitment? When we take the formal step of belonging to a Church in membership, we affirm the truth that we belong to Christ and His people, and we dedicate ourselves to caring for the people Jesus loves which brings Him great honor.

BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP AT LIFE CHURCH

  • Belonging. You don’t have to do life alone. Being a member of a life-giving community and staying involved with the people who love and care for you as your Gospel-centered family is a gift you won’t experience if you are only a church attendee. Church members do “Life” together in good times and bad because they are thoroughly devoted to the Church.
  • Caring. Church membership provides opportunities to care for others, to bear one another’s burdens and to be generous. When your heart is fully devoted to the Church through yourmembership you will desire to serve and care for others. You will be a part of something bigger than yourself. Your mission will align with the Church’s mission.
  • Volunteer Opportunities. You shouldn’t think of Life Church as “the place where I listen to sermons," but as “the place where I serve.” Church members are contributors to Life Church’s ministry—not consumers only. Volunteers have the chance to learn new skills and to use those you already have, meet new people and make a difference in others’ lives. Each volunteer is a necessary part of the Church, but without membership there are certain positions you cannot serve in such as Life Group leadership, prayer team, or being a counter of finances on the Ushering Team.
  • Being a Faithful Witness. It’s our responsibility as Christ followers to witness to the lost, but as an attendee (not a Church member) how can we fully convey our love for the Lord to others when we haven’t dedicated ourselves to the Church.
  • US Armed Forces. The number of Chaplains in the Armed Forces is contingent on national Church membership.
